Survey Results Show IT Spending Concerns Mounting

Recession worries increase between top industry events.

Burlington, MA—May 15, 2008—Astaro Corporation (www.astaro.com), a leading vendor of security appliances, today announced that results from an Astaro survey of over 350 attendees of the Interop Las Vegas conference (April 28-May 2) indicate that a 2008 recession will effect IT spending for 52 percent of participants. This is an increase of nearly 20 percentage points from Astaro’s last survey at the RSA Conference in San Francisco just three weeks earlier, in which only 33 percent of respondents anticipated a recession impacting IT spending.

Possible reasons for the discrepancy between survey results from each event range from the event focus, attendee demographics, and changes in IT spending concerns due to continued media coverage of an impending recession.

Gartner Research states, “While Gartner still sees no evidence of widespread IT budget cuts, negative economic news appears to be making enterprise buyers more cautious. It is still possible that a deepening economic slowdown could result in aggressive steps to reduce or even freeze IT budgets.”

“Security threats continue to increase by Malthusian proportions, requiring additional security functions to stave off attacks,” says Astaro CEO & cofounder Jan Hichert. “This game of catch up is increasingly strained when budgets are tight, which makes finding a solution that continuously adds new layers of protection all the more important.”

In order to cut back costs and workload in face of a looming recession, many SMB administrators are looking to consolidate and simplify their security solutions. Astaro helps to bring IT security costs down by merging all necessary features into one easy-to-use, robust security solution that offers customers free feature enhancements, performance improvements, and technology additions as they become available. Astaro Security Gateway gives businesses the best total cost of ownership and ultimately stretches tight IT security budgets even further.
