In the Season of Giving, Astaro Gives Back to Open Source Projects

UTM Vendor Promotes Benefits of Open Source Sponsorships.

Burlington, Mass. (December 18th, 2007) – Astaro Corporation (www.astaro.com), a leader in delivering Unified Threat Management (UTM) security appliances, today announced it will continue its annual support of seven security-based Open Source projects in 2008 and will look to increase this number moving forward. These projects not only help the Open Source community to develop more advanced security tools, but also promote the general awareness of security issues and risks as well as available solutions. To date, Astaro’s UTM solution makes use of over 300 objects derived from 80 active Open Source projects.

"We are proud to be an active member in the open source security communities as demonstrated by our commitment to these projects," said Astaro CEO Jan Hichert. "We see our participation in the open source community as a way to further advance the progress of security technology. We want to ensure our business practices fall inside the Open Source rules, and although we contribute to many projects, we select the most mature for inclusion in our products."

Astaro is currently working mainly with these communities to which it provides direct financial donations, development resources and in some cases, developer salaries.
